As Scouts arrive, give them a Washington words worksheet.
Have the denner lead the Pledge of Allegiance, then have everyone say the Cub Scout Promise.
Don't forget immediate recognition. Then, discuss the BSA Academics and Sports Program. make sure that all of the scouts in your den know that they can earn belt loops for basic understanding of a sport or academic field and a pin for a longer term accomplishment (such as playing on a team for an entire season.)
Have an outdoor fun day where the den plays tag, tosses frisbees, plays kick-ball or whiffle ball, etc. The point here is that not every meeting has to include a craft project or work on a Cub Scout rank requirement. It's important that scouting be fun and it's OK to have an occasional den meeting where the only purpose of the meeting is to HAVE FUN!
(But have a back-up plan in case the weather does not co-operate!)
Give everyone a copy of the words to God Bless America (or another patriotic song) and teach them the tune. Then have everyone sing the song for a closing.
God Bless America Land that I love Stand beside her And guide her Through the night With a light from above From the Mountains To the Prairies, To the Oceans, White with foam God Bless America My Home sweet Home God Bless America My Home sweet Home
