- Gathering Time
When Scouts arrive, give them an Tiger Maze to work on.
- Opening
Practice the den cheer that you selected at your first meeting.
- Share
Ask the boys to tell everyone what they did with their families since the
last meeting. Draw them out by asking specific questions, such as
- did you see any interesting movies?
- what was the best meal you've had in the last week?
- do you spend much time playing video games? which ones?
- are you on any sports teams? what sport? what position do you play?
- have you visited any relatives?
- what is your favorite activity or subject at school?
- do you have any hobbies?
- what do you do to help around the house?
- Discover
As a group, design and make a den flag. Let the Tigers decide what should be
on the flag, cut out some of the pieces, glue them into place, etc. Later, you
can mount the flag to a pole so that it can be displayed at the Pack meeting.
After the den flag is complete (or when the Tigers begin to loose interest),
plant a seed (Tiger Elective #30). Give each scout a clear plastic tumbler. Line the
inside of the tumbler with damp paper towels. Place a few dried lima beans between the
tumbler wall and the paper towel. Tell the Tiger Cubs to check the towel each day and add
a little water if needed to keep it moist. In about a week they should see some of the
beans sprouting.
- Search
Pass the meeting sign-up sheet around so that if any tiger teams didn't
get a chance to sign up to lead a future meeting they can do it today.
Finalize arrangements for the Go See It activity next week.
- Closing
As each boy leaves he repeats the Tiger Cub motto to the den leader.
- After the Meeting
If the den flag could not be completed, you and your Tiger Cub may
have to get it to the point where it can be used at the Pack meeting.
Finalize preparations for the "Go See It" activity for next week.
- Clean up your meeting place throroughly
- Discuss how the meeting went with your Tiger Cub and with some of the other members
of the den. Adjust future meeting plans as appropriate.
- Request a Tour Permit for the Go See It activity that you'll do in a few weeks. (See Your
Third Tiger Den Meeting.) Your Cubmaster or Committee Chair can explain the process of
getting a Tour Permit. This is very important - without it there is no insurance coverage
and you are putting yourself and the Pack at risk. Always request a Tour Permit for
activities that your den will participate in if they take place off site.
- If any of your scouts have completed awards or advancement report it to the Cubmaster
or Pack Advancement chairperson.
- Review plans for your next meeting.
- Thank your co-leaders and den chief (if you have one).
